WASHINGTON, July 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Hundreds of young professionals,
organizers and activists packed the roof deck and spilled inside a local
Washington, D.C., club this week to mingle with each other and learn about the
efforts of a group of wildly creative, progressive organizations. The event was
hosted by the "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy," (
http://www.VastLeftWingConspiracy.org ) a group organized in May to introduce
young professionals to each other and to a variety of innovative progressive
groups. The group includes veterans of the campaigns of Wesley Clark, Howard
Dean, Dennis Kucinich, and many others.
"The creative efforts of these groups are energizing Democrats, Independents
and some Republicans that haven't been involved in the political process," said
Jake Colvin, one of the founders of the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy. "Run Against
Bush, Women Against Bush and many of our other partners provide outlets for
people who are turned off by 'boring politics as usual.'"
The event was held to showcase Women Against Bush (
http://www.womenagainstbush.org ), a political action committee that uses
approaches such as "anti Bush panties" to get single women to the polls. (see
http://www.VastLeftWingConspiracy.org for a full list of participating groups)
"President Bush has lived up to only one campaign promise, which is to be a
uniter, not a divider," said Richard Khoe, a co-founder of Run Against Bush (
http://www.runagainstbush.org ), one of the groups featured by the Vast Left
Wing Conspiracy, "Because of his policies, the left has become united like never
before."
A previous event held by the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy in May attracted over
400 young professionals from a wide selection of nationally and locally-funded
progressive non-profit organizations, political groups and media outlets.
"It's high time that someone take a stand against boring politics," said John
Hlinko, a founder of the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy, and head of ActForLove.org,
a dating site for activists. "By teaming together, we can ensure that activists
don't miss the vote in November because the campaign has put them to sleep."
The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy has another event scheduled on July 29 in
Boston to coincide with the Democratic National Convention, which will be
co-hosted by Run against Bush. A national rollout of the concept to major
metropolitan areas is planned for August, and additional events will bring
together progressive leaders for smaller seminars. For more information, see
http://www.VastLeftWingConspiracy.org.
